Forres butchers Murdoch
Brothers have finally succeeded in their quest to become World Scotch Pie
Champions. After years of coming close, even first runner up two
years ago, they were crowned World Champs for 2010 at the presentation
ceremony at Carnegie College, Dunfermline on Wednesday 25th November 2009.
The business is ideally
suited to be able to make the most of the title. Sometimes the title
has gone to smaller bakers and butchers whose premises have limited the
potential to fully exploit the title. Not so in Forres however.
Murdochs completed a purpose built bakery in October 2008 and with all the
teething problems that come with such, they actually didn't compete for
the title last year. With their new build bakery now running smoothly they
are certainly geared up to take on any business that comes their way.
Brothers Graham and Ronnie
Murdoch run the High Street butchers and Graham describes the philosophy
behind their success:-
“Keep the quality up and
the sales will build from there. We got to the point where we were selling
more and more and really outgrown the space we had. It was either cut back
or take a massive leap.
“Before you take that
massive jump you really need to be in a situation where you cannot
possibly cope with any more. That is the point we were at, there were two
options:- do less or do a lot more. To go backwards is not the right
direction to go, so we went with the expansion.”
Ronnie spent countless hours
getting the processes and settings right and this confirmation of quality
that comes with lifting this top award is just reward.
