| Macbeth’s
Butchers, based in Forres, received recognition for its new website
by picking up three awards at the newly formed Online Retail Awards.
Macbeths was
the winner of the Food, Soft Drinks and Alcoholic Drinks category and received
a highly commended in the specialist on-line retailer category, as well as
being a finalist in the independent online retailer category.
“These are amazing awards
for us and we are really pleased at being in the mix with some big national
names such as Waitrose, Majestic and Abel and Cole. We have worked
extremely hard in conjunction with our web designers and this work now seems
to be paying off.”
Metazoa and
27BITS,
commissioned to build the Macbeth’s website, were challenged primarily to
facilitate shopping from Macbeths through the site but also to both educate
and entertain its visitors. “We were essentially looking for an
innovative and feature rich website but on a tight budget and to a tight
timescale. We were fortunate that Pete Urwin at Metazoa
and Craig Moir at 27BITS,
working together met and exceeded expectations in the delivery of the site.
The site was also part funded by Highlands
and Islands Enterprise, without whose assistance the project would never
have got off the ground. It is a good example of how a number of
companies have come together to deliver a project."
Since the site has been up
and running, the site has helped increase online sales by 40% as well as
raising the profile of Macbeth’s helping it to reach a wider market. This is
really important for us and our local supply partners as it strengthens demand
for quality Moray products at realistic margins.
The Online Retail Awards are
in their first year and do not celebrate website design, as such. Rather, they
celebrate a retailer’s presence online in an industry sector, through a great
website experience for their customers.
